YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL

This post is going to make a change from my using ramblings about all things fashion and beauty, although, it's not completely irrelevant. I have always been interested in beauty and clothes since before I can remember, when I first got given a play makeup set, you know the ones - they smelt like playdoh - you got it. And my first pair of heels got me all giddy at the age of eleven. But these things where all very well, but, at the time, all the beauty icons I had to look up to where blonde haired, blue eyed and tall. Now, don't get me wrong the Britneys of the world where no doubt beautiful but they just weren't representative of me. I was short, with brown hair, brown eyes and olive skin (which prompted many a comment when I started secondary school about my country of origin, but let's not go there, ey?!)

I think the beauty industry has come a long way since I was eleven, every girl is represented and people are waking up to realise that we are not all the same. All looks, hair colours, nationalities, skin tones and eye colours are beautiful.

I love my dark, thick brows now, but I didn't eleven years ago, I hated them. I was teased for them. Prompting, a very shy eleven year old Laura to be the youngest client to have their eyebrows waxed at my local salon. Yes, sad I know. But, at the time, I felt I needed to do this to fit in and to stop the uneducated slurs. Sure, these kids didn't know that their words literally killed me inside, but what do eleven year olds really know about beauty? Well, y'know, they like what they like, but whatever.

So, the meaning behind this post is to simply say that, whatever you are feeling about yourself and your looks at this moment in time, remember you are beautiful and do you know why? Because I said so.

Laura xoxo
