CRYSTALS, THE SCEPTICS AND RELAXATION

I've been reluctant to write about this topic, mainly because of the way in which people perceive the use of crystal healing; as witchy, ridiculous and archaic, but please, hear me out...

A lot of the time different types of healing are dismissed if not recognised by doctors and those in the medical profession. However, there are different ways of treating ailments that derive from nature and the gifts nature possesses. Now, I’m not saying stop going to the doctors, of course I’m not, in some ways people need to be encouraged to go to the doctors more regularly. But sometimes using objects such as crystals and essential oils can focus the mind and help with conditions such as anxiety and stress. I discovered the power of crystal healing when I attended my first Reiki session. I went in with an open mind and a positive attitude. The key to having things like this work for you is definitely an open mind. If you go into a session sceptical and dismissive then, chances are, you aren’t going to respond to the treatment.

Many people dismiss crystal healing as a placebo and yes, that might be the case. But you can’t deny they help to focus the mind and deliver a sense of relaxation which aids anxiety and panic attacks – surely, this can only be a good thing, regardless of the believe system attached to it. I’ve always been intrigued by crystals, going back as far as childhood when I would pick up a Rose Quartz purely because I thought they were pretty. But as I’ve grown older I’ve found a solace in them I hadn’t recognised before.

For Christmas 2018, I received my first crystal healing book, The Power of Crystal Healing by Emma Lucy Knowles, a bag of crystals especially designed to deal with stress and anxiety and a beautiful (totally Instagrammable) piece of Rose Quartz - I haven’t looked back since. It’s opened my eyes to a different perspective and, whether or not you believe it, has allowed me to focus my mind whether that’s through meditation, yoga or just when I’m having a stressful time.

I'm not trying to convert any one here and I'm not trying to preach. My point with this topic is show that there may be more than meets the eye. Even if the power of crystals doesn't exist and the vibrations from the stones are purely psychological, if it helps people focus and helps people get out of their heads, into their bodies, become in touch with their feelings and deal with their fears, that can only be a good thing, right?
