NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF A GOOD JOURNAL

There are many things that people swear by; a jog, a cup of tea of a morning or indulging in a glass of red at the end of a hard day. Mine is happiness journals. Now, before, you press that little ‘x’ in the corner of the screen – hear me out!

Firstly, the covers always put me in the happiest of moods and secondly they are wonderful for people who struggle to switch off – i.e. me.

The first journal that I bought was this little beauty, 'The Wellbeing Journal', sponsored by Mind. It’s front cover is botanically wonderful and the pages give you the opportunity to splurge everything that’s whirring in your mind (for me, this is often like a bloody tornado) on to the page and take the weight off your poor brain – it works overtime, you know, give it a well-deserved break.

My new favourite purchase is ‘Make Someone Happy’ by Emily Coxhead (FYI she is my new spirit animal, a total babe). I discovered ‘The Happy Newspaper’ through Instagram (a portal to the world of smiles, sunshine and rainbows) and instantly signed up. The newspaper is compiled of only happy news stories, ones that restore your faith in humanity and good, kind, beautiful human beings. *massive grin*

Similarly, the journal guides you through noting down what’s made you happy that day, who smiled at you, who or what gave you that fuzzy feeling in the pit of your stomach. She also gives you the opportunity to acknowledge the things that aren’t so hunky-dory but then she asks you to scribble it out and, then, move on from it to a positive – perhaps a fluffy dog that stole your heart on that specific day.

My favourite part of the journal, aside from the colouring pages, is the little notes that can be cut out. Emily suggests you leave them in places for people to find. How wonderful would it be – you’re strolling down the aisle in Tesco and, as you go to pick up the last can of beans, a note falls on the floor – "you’re pretty wonderful!" or "you're doing great!" it reads – day made

They are fantastic for people who struggle with anxiety and are electrified with nervous energy, it’s a little slice of happiness that can brighten your day.
