THE REIGNING MCQUEEN OF FASHION

I turn 22 this year and I have found as you get older the question of "what are you going to do for your birthday?" becomes increasingly difficult to answer. However, this year it was the easiest decision I have ever had to make. The Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Exhibition at London's V&A. I was so excited about this I just could not contain my exhilaration, it actually hurts.
So, with this in mind, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to review the exhibition.
McQueen has always been my favourite designer, full of controversy, subversion and using fashion as a highly charged artistic outlet. My admiration grew and grew for him as I became increasingly interested in fashion and the design of clothes. When he died in 2010 I was deeply saddened and affected by it, this creative genius and his wondrous mind would no longer be creating such incredible masterpieces and so when I found out that the MET's exhibition was making its way to the V&A I could not have been happier.

However, before we took a trip into the mind of McQueen we had a lovely meal at my favourite restaurant in Kensington, Thai Square. A strawberry mojito, a green Thai curry and a chocolate lava dessert went down very nicely.

My outfit for the day was as listed below. Thank you to Amy for taking the pictures. Photographs taken on Thurloe Place.

The V&A is such a beautiful building and it just wouldn't be right if I hadn't photographed the gorgeous architecture.

Once we entered the exhbition I was completely entranced. I just could not put my finger on what had caused me to feel so overwhelmed. Was it the sheer magnitude of his works? The attention to detail? Seeing my fashion heroes life laid out before me? Well, I guess, it was all of the above. From the Highland Rape collection, right through to Plato's Atlantis, every piece told a story, a story of vivid imagination, of a deep contrast in thoughts, romanticism and empowerment. His designs are strong, thought provoking and seeped in creative desire. Each intricate piece of work, whether draped in Swarovski crystals or covered in £2000 lace (see the stunning Widows of Culloden dress from A/W 2006) everything exudes beauty contrasted with dark, Gothic romance which only adds to the sheer magnificent of each piece.

The whole exhibition spoke to me, spoke to my creative mind, to my love of clothes  but also confirmed what I had always known, Alexander McQueen - genius.

Lots of love,
Laura xoxo
